Does hypnosis really work to help with overeating and lack of desire to exercise? How do I find a qualified hypnosis? Do tapes work?

Hi, Steel Acres. You asked:

1) Does hypnosis really work to help with overeating?
2) [Does hypnosis really work to help with the] lack of desire to exercise? 3) How do I find a qualified hypnosis?
4) Do tapes work?

My answers:
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Send an email to: aih@ix.netcom.com and in your subject line put:Hypnotherapist Referral Wanted. In the body of your email tell your location and what you're interested in. They'll get back to you with a recommendation.

Alternatively, look in the yellow pages and when you contact a hypnotherapist, make sure they're certified by an organization such as the American Board of Hypnotherapy or the National Guild of Hypnotists. As for what they've trained in and how long they've been practicing. That should give you a good idea.

4) It depends upon the tape. Some people here will say "yes," if the hypnotherapist making the tape is well-trained and knows what he or she is doing. Personally, I am inclined to think that a tape made to help a general audience with a problem is sort of like giving them all an aspirin for a headache. Sure, it will help some people, but others may be allergic to aspirin and in other cases the drug may disguise a more serious problem.

On the other hand, a tape made by a hypnotherapist who has talked with you and makes a tape especially for you is far more likely to be successful.

Ask the hypnotherapist you choose to make a tape of your session.

Ask the hypnotherapist you choose to make a tape of your session.
Ashley, truly the best tapes or cd's will come from your therapist.
He/she can personalise it to suit the client. Therefore getting much better results, rather than any random tape/cd you could purchase.
It will be worth the little extra cash you spend.

Happy New Year all!

Does hypnosis really work to help with overeating and lack of desire to exercise? How do I find a qualified hypnosis? Do tapes work? General behaviour change is quite simple to instill using suggestion. You can find a qualified hypnotherapist in the phone book. Find a good one by asking for references. Tapes etc., are a bit one-size-fits-all. For the best chance of suggestion becoming reality, you really need to work one-on-one.
