Hi all. First time poster. I haven't really studied up on hypnosis, but in early high school I learned how, so I have stage (read: party) experience. Now, I'll use it when a new friend asks to see "what it's like" (cue light trance and minor susceptability tests), as well as to help friends relax.
Lately, however, a dear friend of mine with a very type-A personality has been overworking herself and entering a cycle of burn herself out => have trouble with her work => burn herself out even more trying harder and harder => etc. I tried hypnotizing her earlier using stage-esque techniques, but she's one of those people who can't clear her head/focus her attention well enough for it to really work.
So I'm wondering what techniques would work well on that type of personality. Confusion inductions sound promising, but in that case I'd want to know what general ideas to use rather than a specific script. (Among other things, the words "hypnosis" and "trance" are iffy; I'd rather call a relaxation technique a relaxation technique and explain more fully later instead of having false expectations mucking things up.) But to people with good experience in this, what are good techniques to use for relaxation, and where can I find general ground rules in addition to scripts?
