I found an ad in the local "Little Nickle" newspaper for someone, Bob Motte, offering classes to become a professional "Hypnotherpaist", his spelling not mine, claiming that...1) he wrote a book named "clinical Hyphosis", once again his spelling not mine; can't find his name at all as an author any place 2) that WA State does not require licensing for hypnotherapists..which they DO.
I called the paper, complained, got the ad pulled !
People like this make everyone in the profession look like charlitans.
I talked to quite a few other professionals here in the Seattle area and none of them had ever heard of the guy either. Who knows where he popped up from .

Unfortunately, there are some people who will mess up the profession for all of us. What you did is known as "self-policing," something we should all be doing and, IMO, the way the profession should be working rather than having some moronic, manipulated, overpaid government agency doing it for us.

The difficulty in this, of course, is when individuals have personal agendas, simply don't like another person, or the ad is questionable but doesn't present anything which is actually unethical or illegal. When confronted with that we have to observe our own motivations and be scrupulously objective.

Annie, Steve,

You live in Washhington. Didn't you post once that Washington doesn't license hypnotherapists?

The Department of Health requires that a Hypnotherapist be licensed, just like a counselor..only more expensive LOL !...and renewed yearly. :p
Me, I'm a stickler for those kinds of things. My R.N. license doesn't cover my Hypnotherapy practice, so I have to have both licenses in order to practice legally.
