Does anyone have any experience with Shaktipat transmission? Wikipedia describes it as:
...the act of a spiritual teacher conferring a form of spiritual "power" or awakening on a disciple/student.
I am receiving this power tonight. I'm interested in hearing anyone else's experiences or thoughts. One web site I was reading said if you aren't ready for it that it will feel like a bolt of lightning and could cause brain damage. I rather doubt that.

I'm really quite sure of the person from whom you are receiving this. She will let no harm come to you! PROMISE!! She's an extremely wonderful and talented lady. You would not receive it if she did not know you are worthy so just relax and allow.
Please come back tomorrow and tell us all about it! Hugs, Pood & Pood

Do you have her email address so you can ask her directly? If not, PM me or send me an e and I'll give it to you. Probably better from the "horse's mouth". Hugs,

Connie, never heard of the word, but the description rings a bell, except that I am no spiritual leader, have no deciple or student, so when I do it I call it "transference" and at no time have I seen a lightning bolt, or any other dramatic incident, it just works, and works well....:) I have also heard it called, "laying on of hands" in a religious context, and again, no fantastic experiences "without", but at times from within I have seen wonderful changes..... Re our private discussions by the way, results were beyond expectations, so chalk one up to yourself, and thanks.....

I'm so glad!!! :) (That was my prediction, as you recall!) This stuff is REAL, which is absolutely the most amazing thing going on in my life right now.
Also, thanks Poodle. I know that it's only good, I just wondered if anyone else had experienced it and would share.

Well, I'm all "shaktipat'ed" up now! :) It was very strange. I kept hearing an electrical hum in my ear, on and off...but I finally traced that to some computer equipment in my vicinity. Only, it never sounded that LOUD before. Maybe the pressure in my head was different, and I was hearing better or differently? I thought at first that the hum was part of the energy transmission.
I kept feeling goosebumpy kind of things. And my hair standing on end. Goosebumps moving in a wave. I saw colors cascading behind my eyes--mostly green and purple. I felt strange tinglings/itchings. My knee, my temple, the back of my hand. A couple or three times I felt a little JOLT. The first one was at my throat. That really startled me. A couple times I felt disoriented, like dizzy or spinning.
From my description, it doesn't sound pleasant. But it was pleasant. :) I don't feel "awakened" in particular. Maybe it's a gradual thing as opposed to a door slamming open thing.
Shaktipat is a powerful experience. Physically it manifests as a type of shaking, frequently described as "jerks." It is completely beyond your control. The experience is similar to having the "Heebee-Jeebees," that shiver that you get for no reason at all.
There are many ways to experience it. It can be a gift from the Divine, a blessing from an enlightened person, or as a result of personal work with breath (pranayama), visualization (specifically of figures known as yantras), of sound (repetition of certain mantras), and other spiritual practices.
For some people it occasionally occurs after orgasm and can surprise and scare the person or persons involved.

Thanks, Don. This was "a blessing from an enlightened person." :)
I did experience jerking. 3 times. One was my arm, one was my whole body, one was whatever was happening by my throat. The body jerking one, I thought that was me falling asleep and catching myself and having some kind of spasm--I've experienced that kind of a motion before.
Thanks for the book titles--I've got so many books to read now. But I'm happy to add to the list!! :D I'm reading carefully and THINKING while I'm reading lately, so it takes me a longer time than previously. The backlog of books now is stacked to the ceiling. Hypnosis books, NLP books, personal development books... Right now I'm concurrently reading "Frogs into Princes" and "You'll See It When You Believe It" by Wayne Dyer. Dyer is my new hero.

Perhaps you'll have to do a speed-reading course first.

Reading is like intimacy. :) It's something I enjoy, therefore I want to take my time, savor it, experience it fully. Faster is not better.

Connie, after reading your analogy, I think I may never be able to read a book quickly again.
*Phew*

Shall I share more about the shaktipat? I sent a couple psychic messages to my spiritual teacher during the transmission--testing the connection as it were. Today she sent me an email and the first sentence was an answer to one of my psychic thoughts. (insert twilight zone music)
She gave me the most beautiful compliment of my life, which I'll share with you all. She said she could see my "essence" and that it's "LOVE, PURE LOVE." Isn't that beautiful? She also said that she received a name for me, a spiritual name during the shaktipat, and that she was amazed because that's not a common occurrence.

That is very interesting.
Since you started this thread it seems to have been in my thoughts rather a lot, off-line.
( I wonder if I shall have to change my silly bboard name to "somewhat-less-skeptical", perhaps.............<g> )
Anyway, I was wondering, how you actually went about becoming 'eligible' for Shaktipat? (if 'eligible' is even the right word? I don't know).
I guess what I am sort of saying is, what would I have to do were I also interested in having such an experience? ( if you feel it is more appropriate to answer this by email, then "conversational.reframes @ ntlworld.com" would be a suitable contact (but leave out the spaces on each side of the @ symbol, of course.)

Yes, it is.

Hi, thanks for the comments! This is an interesting story. She (my spiritual teacher) says I asked for it. That was news to me. She says once asked for it is freely given.
She's also my reiki master/teacher. When I first talked to her, she had instructed me to go to her website "store" to purchase the reiki tutelage. She had various items for sale and a few "by invitation only" (including the Shaktipat). She had told me to look at the pictures on the pages, that she had embued them with a sample of the energy to be had. I did so. Later I told her that the ONLY picture I responded to in any way was the Shaktipat picture. It drew me. It was pulsating. (I made it my computer wallpaper.) :) She said my response was an asking, and that she would honor the request. I had never heard of the word or had any clue what it might entail. She feels that I was guided by my "higher self" to receive this spiritual awakening in this lifetime.
She has also said repeatedly that I have been a healer before in many previous lifetimes--to the level of a "shaman or high priestess." I think that's cool!

I get more "awakened" tonight! :) There sure is a lot of tinkering going on with me lately--my energies, my mind, my spirit, my body. Luckily, it's all good stuff.

Wow, the more I read on this board... the more I realize I must be living under a rock!
I've never heard of such a thing. Sounds cool Connie.
I don't have much to add, but I'm reading along and trying to absorb...
