Through the powers of hypnosis could you prevent/treat cancer? More effectiveley than at a hospital?
Unless they have received an M.D. and are licensed as physicians, hypnotherapists are not doctors. In the U.S. they cannot legally treat cancer without a written referral from a licensed professional such as an oncologist. That would be practicing medicine without a license. However, hypnotherapy has been shown to be an effective complementary technique that improves the effectiveness of mainstream cancer therapies, especially chemotherapy.

Hi Solaris,
Don addressed that any person, offering medically-Related services, *must by Law* be referred by *and* work thru the permission of an MD (at least in the USA). That ought to be "Standard practice" really,
altho
personally, I am aware of quite a few NLP'ers, within a 50 mile-radius, who do not have their "Stop smoking, or weight Loss" - clients provide them with an MD-referral prior to providing their services. That is 1 of several *Safety*-concerns I have about what goes on.
As far as "cancer" ? - in reading the posts here, you observe all different opinions about 'causality' : yet, I wonder how many of said posters are Practitioners actually helping people with such in the past, or currently. Iow, there is a big difference between being an "armchair Theorist", and actually actively Helping people with such "issues".
I have not only *self-Healed* from such (in 1982), I have additionally helped several people 'self-Heal' themselves, as well. And 4 years ago, I availed myself of additional Training, enabling us to help such sufferers more 'systematically' should we be asked.
There are a couple large-scale disasters, from which you could fall-ill with "cancer".
Aside from those, your best advantages for "preventing" cancer are:
1. a Happy/Healthy *emotional* life, meaning in your enjoying FUN, you are mindfully not harming either yourself or other people.
and
2. Also keeping *physically-healthy*, while not the main factor, will help you as well.
and
3. In the event someone causes you "pain", speedily *forgive* them. (whatever else you may do to protect yourself from more harm).
You can think of 'cancers' as the 'representation' of overpowering strong-negative emotions people allowed festering in their mind. So, do *not* participate in that.
and
3. Helping children stay *whole, free & healthy* will help them prevent cancer also.
and
4. Helping adults do the same, will help spread the "Good Word" ...
The power of your own mind, Solaris, was granted to you to help you gain any *benevolent wonderful skills* you choose. Choose *well* :) ...

Probably, but how would you know?
>treat cancer?

>More effectiveley than at a hospital?

Your question (“Through the powers of hypnosis could you prevent/treat cancer? More effectively than at a hospital?) is too “wide open” to answer with a yes or no. What Don replied “hypnotherapy has been shown to be an effective complementary technique that improves the effectiveness of mainstream cancer therapies, especially chemotherapy” Is very good. I also think Merlin agreed (hope that’s accurate Merlin) that depending upon what information you are seeking will determine the advice or opinion of those on this list. I’m not sure I know where Annie went with her answer. I personally do not think that any one modality of dealing with a dis-ease is “the best” for everyone. I have seen many people have very positive change in their health using Hypnosis/NLP and other healing modalities. I would like to say also that when I use the words healing modalities this includes many other practices such as Guided Imagery, EFT, BSST, and all the many energy forms of healing. As you research a question like yours you will find that many people are using the same TYPE of work, with a different name. This could be because of the fear they will be associated with a group (i.e. some guided imagery practitioners, not all, uses the same style of wording I do as a Hypnotist. Some only have training as a hypnotist but want to be seen as “separate” for many reasons and some of them good) So with that in mind your question asks “Through the power of hypnosis could you prevent/treat cancer? More effectively than at a hospital? My answer is PREVENT(implies taking advance measures against something possible or probable) Yes Hypnosis can have a effect that could be seen as prevention. TREAT (to care for or deal with medically or surgically) this by our laws can only be done by a MD. Again Dons answer is correct. Hospital (an institution where the sick or injured are given medical or surgical care) I assume you meant “hospital” as traditional medicine. If so I am of the mind that traditional medicine controls the symptoms while the body heals. So any Healing modality that addresses the healing of ones self is in my opinion effectively assisting the healing of ones physical body hypnosis included. This is a very HOT topic and if you are researching it for yourself it would be my humble advice to keep a very open mind. There are many people with very strong opinions both for and against Hypnosis. The information is out there it is just sometimes hidden behind prejudices. Hope this is helpful

William, I was very impressed with your answer. I would like to add a bit to it.
The term "cancer" applies to a wide variety of diseases. Although there are similarities there are also differences. Some cancers, such as leukemia, metastasize while others, such as some forms of prostate cancer, do not. Some cancers spread so quickly it is shocking, while others spread so slowly that a person could "die of old age" before they die of the cancer.
So the question is, why does one person develop cancer of the prostate while another develops leukemia and another develops cancer of the esophagus?
Further, would hypnotherapy that helps or prevents one form of cancer also be effective on another form? Perhaps. Perhaps not. I don't know.
It is my understanding that Caroline Myss writes about psychological causes of disease in her books. I don't know if she puts cancer in one area or deals with it in multiple areas.
To my mind, the answer to the question is that although there is not a single cure for all cancers, hypnotherapy has shown positive results in complementing certain forms of cancer therapy and may well have positive applications for cancer prevention. However, more research is definitely needed.
