It all depends on what you can train a dog to do that would be usefull in doing hypnosis. Of all the skill sets needed, the one that would perhaps be easiest for a dog to do would be inductions. There are techniques for doing those pretty much non-verbally. Lets say you get a dog that people find particularly calming, soothing, reasuring, relaxing. Better yet - a setting where any dog would have such a responce - a hospice or hospital. Now the mere presence of a dog is inducing trance! Teach the dog some variant of the Interrupted Handshake Technique, and the dog is doing inductions. Have the dog do inductions, a parakeet do the suggestion, and you have an act to put all the likes of xxxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx and other mere human stage hypnotists out of business. I don't know how effective it would really be as Hypnotherapy, though, Depends on what the parakeet can be taught to say, and how reliably he can be made to say such things as appropriate in the course of therapy.

O O I learnt what that word means today ( yay me Im learning ):D
Great Solaris,
Now why is it important to make the distinction between a noun and a process that people act as if it is a noun? (A nominalization)
Knowing what it is, is important, knowing why it is important, is power.

"Could a dog become a hypnotist?"
They quickly learn to induce altered states when they scratch the door to go out, sit by their food bowl, or bring the leash to go for a walk :D

I can't speculate on this question, simply because, though it has never been done, there seems to be no reason why it can't. After all, from what I hear from time to time, some dogs would likely do better than some practitioners do now...
I know that dogs are taken into hospitals for the aged, and also into mental wards, and have a very calming influence on the inhabitants.....
Now, that being said, why are you insulting the dogs by asking such a question?Terry
