View Full Version : once again, the training question

I wrote awhile back regarding Valerie Austin's weekend course. Well, I did it, it was interesting, but not much else. I didn't expect much, to be honest, and it left me more confident using self help hypnosis tapes, which all in all is a good thing. Now, once again, I'm asking about training-as in proper training, the year-round, exam-ending, practical type to become a hypnotherapist kind of training.
There seems to be no real regulating body as such in the UK. They exist, but from what I read seem to be ineffectual at present, as they're quite new. I've looked at the more official-sounding schools (those with London or British in their names), and I get the feeling they may be a little traditional and outdated. Then there are schools with granola, earth-mother types of names, with weird approaches that sound like their own creations. These might be at the forfront of all advancements in this field, the problem is, I simply don't know.
Can anyone help me with this? Is there any hypnotherapist out there who has trained in the UK? I don't just want to learn hypnosis. What I'm most interested in is the therapeutic possibilities. I also don't want a course that spends ages on the history and theories behind hypnosis. Give me the books and I'll read them, but I don't see the practical side of learning Mesmer's birthday. I keep reading "take a course", but no one seems able to tell me which one. These 6-day/10-day things sound like great adjuncts to a sound base of knowledge, but I want to get that first. I don't have the money to waste, although I'm quite happy to get in debt for something worthwhile.
Please help!
